This week has seen the arrival of some of the best evidence to date for Google’s next Nexus smartphone, presumed to arrive as the Nexus 5. First we saw a hitherto unknown handset bearing the Nexus logo in a video shot on Google’s campus, celebrating the installation of the new Android 4.4 KitKat sculpture. Then more recently there was the discovery of FCC paperwork for an LG phone that sure seemed to have quite a few details lining up with what we expect from a Nexus 5. For the moment, nothing’s yet official, but based on all the info to date, one Android fan assembled the above image, showing how the real Nexus 5 might very well arrive.

Take a little bit of inspiration from the Nexus 4, add in what we saw from that KitKat video, make sure all the dimensions line up with the figures revealed in those FCC docs, shake well, and you end up with something along the lines of what we see above.

Maybe our sense of scale was just off in that video, because the phone really isn’t seeming quite so large as it initially came off there. Thanks to those FCC figures, we can see that even with a five-inch screen, this handset should have a smaller profile than the Nexus 4. Some of the details here are almost certainly off, and the bezels might not look quite like this, but assuming we’re in the general ballpark, what do you think? Is this a Nexus 5 design you could get behind? Are you glad it’s not a straight-up G2 clone?
