It’s been a seriously long time since we’ve seen a Motorola tablet. Following the Xoom, there was the Xyboard/Xoom 2 (above), but even that’s coming up on being two years old. Will we ever see Motorola get back into the tablet game? Certainly, other companies that have taken a hiatus, like LG, are choosing now to get back in the mix of things. We mused about the possibility a little over a month ago, and now as Motorola officially launches its Fort Worth facility, we’re getting confirmation straight from the top that another tablet is in the company’s plans.

In an interview with Engadget, CEO Dennis Woodside talked about “taking some of the design cues, as well as technologies, from the Moto X and extending them into other form factors,” and though he wouldn’t offer much in the way of specifics about even something as basic as the size, did confirm that a tablet of some kind is in the works.

We don’t know if that means another custom Moto Maker experience, or a more traditional launch – it’s not even clear if we’re talking about plans for the immediate future or something much more distant, well into 2014. But for those of you who have seen the Moto X, and like what this new Google-helmed Motorola is capable of, we’d wager the prospect of a new Moto tablet, no matter what form it takes, is one well worth getting excited about.
