Samsung Galaxy Folder tipped as Android flip phone

Of all the smartphone form factors, no doubt one of the very rarest is the flip-phone. Though ubiquitous during the dumbphone days of yore, the touchscreen ultimately proved to be its downfall – if you don’t need a numerical keyboard anymore, a hinged, folding design almost feels like it’s just wasting space. Still, there’s continued to be the odd Android folder every now and then – just last fall we heard of a new one from Samsung(above). The manufacturer may have another stab at this design left in it, and reports out of Korea now claim that Samsung is releasing yet another Android folder.

While last year’s Samsung SCH-W2013 was a seriously expensive boutique-style phone, this new guy sounds like it could be much more affordable. It takes the very appropriate name Galaxy Folder and should hit South Korea as Samsung models SHV-E400S/K.

We haven’t heard mention of the screen size, but look for it to have a WVGA resolution. The Folder should be powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 and support LTE.

Sadly, there’s no indication yet that Samsung has any plans on bringing this puppy to Western audiences. That’s a shame, because there have to be a few users who would love to relive some old flip-phone days with a much more modern platform – the Galaxy Folder should ship running Android 4.2.2.
